Room Parents

• Connect with your teacher at the beginning of the school year. This is a great time to learn how they would like Room Parent support, discuss class celebrations and special events, confirm dates and times, and ask about any food allergies or classroom needs.

• Introduce yourself to classroom families. Send a short welcome letter or email letting families know you are the Room Parent and sharing how they can stay connected and help throughout the year.

• Help coordinate class parties and special events. Before each event, send information home to families and, when needed, request voluntary donations of supplies, snacks, decorations, or other items. All donations and teacher gifts should always be optional.

• Capture classroom memories. When appropriate, take photos of class parties, activities, and special moments and send them to the yearbook coordinator for possible inclusion in the school yearbook.

• Class Parties: Help coordinate food, supplies, activities, and volunteers for classroom celebrations such as Halloween, Winter Holiday, and End-of-Year parties.

• Teacher Birthday: Help make the teacher’s birthday special by coordinating a small treat, class card, or optional student/family contributions.

• Teacher Appreciation Week: Help organize thoughtful activities, notes, or optional gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

• Cougar Trek & Carnival: Help coordinate classroom volunteers and support as needed for these school-wide events.

• Grade-Level Enrichment Activities: Help support special enrichment activities for 4th and 5th grade classrooms.

Remember to delegate! Room Parents are not expected to do everything themselves. Ask other families to help, share responsibilities, and work together. A successful year is a team effort.
